Review Pocket Guide to Chicago Architecture by Judith Paine McBrie

Pros: necessary guide to Chicago Architecture

Cons: nice, not that bad

This book Pocket Guide to Chicago Architecture by Judith Paine McBrie is one of the best portable guides to buildings in Chicago that might have passed before your eyes.

The author Judith Paine McBrie seems to have done a hard work in compiling this excellent book as is evident from the contents of this book.  The book covers the great buildings of the 19th century to modern skyscrapers by Mies, SOM, Murphy/ Jahn, KPF, Perkins & Will, and much more. This pocket guide is an excellent source of information—and a perfect companion for a walking tour—on the internationally acclaimed architecture of Chicago.

This book provides architectural renderings and brief (half-page) histories of each building, and groups them into sections based on the order in which visitors to Chicago are likely to view them. This is a good supplement to any architectural tours of Chicago that may be taken. This book is one of the best quick reference book for Chicago architecture and must be considered almost compulsory for tourist traveling to Chicago.
